I used to think hiring an Interior Designer was something only rich people did. I did not know anyone who was open for such an idea. Whenever I asked randomly if someone would hire an Interior Designer, not many knew what exactly they do or how to go about hiring one.
Before I started this blog, I used to secretly post interior decorating articles on blogger.com
I never told anyone I was doing this. That’s what fear of being labelled an impostor does to you. It crashes your confidence and tells you that you are not good enough. I had 6 to 10 articles and this was when blogging had just hit the scene in Kenya. The year was 2011.
Later on in the same year, I deleted the blog. I had just started my first job as a Human Resource professional and wanted to concentrate solely on my day job.
Fast forward to 2020 and I am now a full time Content Creator and Interior Decorator. My dream job is finally a reality.
The purpose behind this blog and my Instagram page has always been to help educate people about interior design and why they need it in their lives.
So if you are thinking of working with an Interior Designer, then you won’t want to miss this.
8 Reasons To Hire An Interior Designer
1. Saves You Time
Remodeling or redecorating a home is not child’s play. It involves a lot of people and so many concepts and processes.
Hiring an Interior Designer will save you the headache and time. I know when it comes to our homes, we often like to be on top of things. I get it – I also do this. However, it’s okay to let an Interior Designer handle the remodeling task while you take care of the rest.
Try it, you’ll see how much time you saved and was able to complete other tasks at hand.
2. Saves You Money
So we moved house last month and every other day since then we’ve been having fundis coming to rectify shoddy work that was done when the house was constructed. Fundi in general means plumber, carpenter, electrician etc etc.
You can obviously tell an Interior Designer wasn’t involved in the initial building stages of the home. Correcting these mistakes have cost our land lord a pretty penny. Hiring an Interior Designer will help you avoid these costly mistakes.
3. Access To Vendors
A lot of the behind the scenes in interior design involves haggling with vendors, sourcing materials & decorative accessories. Designers often know the best places to source for materials – especially, materials that are less expensive, of durable quality and still look good.
This access to vendors gives Interior Designers the opportunity to create something unique and special.
4. Acts As Your Representative
An Interior Designer will act as your representative when dealing with lots of people such as painters, electricians, carpenters, plumbers etc etc.
They will ensure your vision gets delivered on time and within budget.
5. Brings Your Vision To Life
I often ask clients who seek my services what their decor style and theme is and very few are able to put it in words or on paper.
Their Pinterest boards are full of wonderful ideas but they have no idea how to execute them or where to begin. Interior Designers have the skills to take your vision and know exactly how to translate your ideas into reality.
6. Creates a Functional Space
The functionality of a room is determined by how you effectively use the space of a room. You may have a huge room that feels like the walls are closing in on you, solely because it’s congested. Additionally, a small room may look and feel spacious depending on the layout of the room.
An Interior Designer can help make your space more functional. They are able to think outside the box and come up with ideas and solutions that would not even cross your mind.
7. Jack of All Trades
You don’t need to rack your brain wondering what’s the best paint you should use for your walls, kitchen cabinet doors or ceiling – an Interior Designer will help you with this.
They are able to help you pick out the suitable paint, select the right furniture and do all the interior planning and layout for you.
Did you know you could hire an Interior Designer just to help you organize your home and get rid of the clutter? Well you definitely can.
Probably your home only needs a little organization for it to feel like a home again. An Interior Designer will help and guide you through the decluttering process. The goal here is to have an orderly and clutter free home and this is what hiring an Interior Designer will help you achieve in the end.
